Duffey Lake Provincial Park is centered around the picturesque Duffey Lake, with stunning views of the glacier-covered peak of Mt. Rohr. The park protects important wildlife habitats, particularly for mountain goats, grizzly bears and black bears.
The Duffey Lake/Cayoosh Creek Valley was historically used as a travel route between the Lillooet First Nations on Lillooet Lake and the Stl’alt’imx First Nation on the Fraser River. The area was important to these First Nations for hunting, trapping and food gathering.
The 2,007-hectare park is a popular spot for fishing, picnicking, canoeing, kayaking and rustic camping. Paddlers should exercise caution, as the wind on the lake can be strong at times.
The park has no developed hiking trails, but wilderness, backcountry or walk-in camping is allowed. Duffey Lake Campground is located alongside Highway 99, and can therefore be quite noisy during the day. All campsites are offered on a first-come first-served basis - camping reservations are not accepted. Facilities are limited to picnic tables.
Duffey Lake is stocked with rainbow trout and does have a rough gravel single car-top boat launch. There is no parking for vehicles and boat trailers, which normally park on the boat launch.
Duffey Lake Provincial Park is located along Duffey Lake Road (Highway 99), about 22 miles (35 km) east of Pemberton, between Pemberton and Lillooet. The park is about a three-hour drive to the northeast from Vancouver. The Duffey Lake Road is a scenic highway that forms part of a 700-km driving route called the Coast Mountain Circle Tour. The loop passes through Vancouver and takes between two and four days to drive.
Preservation of the Duffey Lake Provincial Park area requires that hiking, camping and other activities be well managed, and that all visitors be fully prepared & practice 'leave no trace' wilderness etiquette. Camping is only permitted in designated areas.
